The
data in these 3 tables are selected from the whole area of our board and include data from all MLS listed properties
from all the real estate companies with properties on our board data base. The first table is for data from the whole area covering both Peterborough city and outside the city
combined, The upper section shows the total sales
numbers, and the other 2 sections of the table look at the number of sales broken into categories for
first of all just the month of May and then for the year to
date jan-may ..... when looking at these tables
it is worth remembering that the financial crisis was at its worst at the end for 2008, so by then the main realestate
selling season for 2008 was mainly over and the figures for 2008 were not far off a typical year ....but 2009 was badly affected
at the beginning of the year by buyer uncertainty caused by the world wide financial upheaval , and by the time buyers were
a little more optimistic later in 2009 the main buying season was coming to an end .. so 2009 was a weak year for
the real estate market so when comparing the 2010 figures with 2009 we are seeing large improvements
over the weak 2009 figures there was an increase of 13.1% in the number of sales for may
2010 over may 2009! ..... but the may 2010 sales numbers are lower than the may 2008!! and for the year to date (jan-may) in the bottom third of the table , all
categories are showing sales numbers higher in 2010 than in 2009 ... take a look at a chart to see how prices have change over the years

. This second table looks in a bit more depth at 4 groups of properties comparing
jan-may in 2008, 2009 and 2010 the first group being in Peterborough District
.. which is Peterborough City in the database the other 3 groups are in the Rural District ... which
is Peterborough County sales numbers are up in all 4 groups average
days on the market to sell is down for all 4 groups and the average selling price is up
in 3 groups....
